Telecom in France

France has four mobile networks, Orange, SFR, Bouygues, and Free, plus low-cost virtual operators that run on them. Most newcomers pick a no-commitment plan (forfait sans engagement), and home internet usually means a box on the fibre network. To switch providers you request your number-portability code (RIO) and keep your number; porting is free and takes up to 3 working days. Since 27 July 2026 the Bouygues group (Bouygues Telecom, B&You, NRJ Mobile, Cdiscount Mobile, Auchan Telecom) charges a €5 exit fee on no-commitment plans. The sector is regulated by ARCEP.
